At Aptiv, diversity and inclusion are sources of innovation and creativity, both of which are essential to our success. Last week’s International Women in Engineering Day gave us an opportunity to celebrate our diversity and put our female inventors and innovators front and center.
The day itself, on June 23, is celebrated around the world to raise awareness of the contributions that women have made in the engineering field, while also highlighting that more progress needs to be made.
I’m proud that Aptiv has made diversity a priority. Women make up almost half of our global workforce and more than 20 percent of our management team – which exceeds the averages in the technology and industrial sectors of 19 percent and 18 percent, respectively. We are still not where we need to be, but we are moving in the right direction.
Our commitment to diversity is evident in other ways. We work to ensure that comparable positions within regions receive equal pay. We also sponsor events focused on Women in Technology to support the careers of the women at Aptiv and to increase our gender diversity. In addition, we actively work with young women to pursue educational and vocational opportunities in the STEM fields.
We support these initiatives because they are the right thing to do. But we also recognize that diversity benefits our company by drawing on the skills, knowledge and experiences of people from different backgrounds and perspectives.
We will continue to advance diversity, equity and inclusion at Aptiv. International Women in Engineering Day, and every day, is a good time for us all to renew that commitment.
