Aptiv Smart Vehicle Architecture™ (SVA™) is a vehicle-level solution for electrical and electronic systems that lowers total cost of ownership and enables feature-rich, highly automated vehicles.
We accomplish these goals via a standards-based approach to interfaces, which improves reuse and creates an open platform for innovation.
Aptiv’s Smart Vehicle Architecture™ is an optimized set of technologies that provide all of the ingredients for the software-defined vehicle: the hardware architecture, the software architecture, and the ability to use cloud-based tools to develop, deploy and operate vehicles throughout their lifecycle. But where did SVA come from? What makes it innovative? And what makes it so compelling?
Abstract Software from Hardware
SEPARATE I/O from Compute
ENABLE Serverization of Compute
By separating I/O from compute, Aptiv zone controllers deliver one of the key benefits of SVA™. Instead of each sensor and actuator running data lines to an active safety domain controller, the zone controller aggregates the data onto a single high-speed interface.
As OEMs build the brain and nervous system that Aptiv’s SVA™ comprises, they should not underestimate the crucial role of the CVC — the little brain that not only enables higher functions of software-defined vehicles but also quietly keeps everything moving smoothly.
Advanced driver-assistance systems and user-experience features require high-performance compute to make driving decisions or interact with the driver and passengers seamlessly. To enable applications across legacy domains and different levels of criticality, the software and hardware must be architected so that lower-level functions are abstracted, leaving the higher functions to the brain of the vehicle: Aptiv’s Open Server Platform.
OEMs can implement SVA™ architectural elements that make the most sense for their individual platforms and add more elements over time to enable advanced capabilities. The flexibility allows for a wide range of optimized configurations. Here are some sample architectures.
Aptiv's Smart Vehicle Architecture™ approach helps vehicle technology evolve, from domain and zone control to more advanced enablers of software-defined features and cloud-native functionality.
With a zonal architecture, up-integrated intelligence and a system for updating software over time, OEMs will have all the building blocks of SVA™, and will be able to take advantage of its ability to enable advanced features and high degrees of automation through a software-defined architecture that is sustainable well into the future.
